Amazing Race Episode 8 Recap

It’s getting down to the wire as there are only 4 teams left on The Amazing Race.  With 4 teams and two non-elimination legs left, it’s gonna get interesting.

Last week, teams left India and flew to Kazakhstan.  Leaving the Pit Stop, teams of Nick & Starr and Toni & Dallas went to a hotel to make reservations before heading to the airport.  Ken & Tina went straight to the airport.  All three teams managed to get on the first flight out.  Terence and Sarah were on the second flight, and frat boys Dan and Andrew were on the third, much later flight.

Once in Kazakhstan, teams were to go to a chicken factory.  As teams arrived, they found that it was closed until 7:30am, giving the boys the opportunity to catch up to the others.  Andrew and Dan arrived just in time for the gates to open.

Once inside, teams were faced with a Road Block, in which one team member had to search among 30,000 chickens for one of seven golden eggs.  When they found their egg, they would get their next clue.

There was also information for the last Fast Forward of the race.  The team completing the Fast Forward would get to skip all other tasks and head straight for the Pit Stop.  Both Nick & Starr and Terence & Sarah decided to try for the Fast Forward, knowing that only one team could complete it.

To win the Fast Forward, both team members had to take part in a traditional feast, and eat a traditional dish of sheep butt fat.  It was a pretty big dish too.  Starr was smart and didn’t bother to look at the menu to see the description.  She and Nick started eating.  Terence, being a vegetarian, hadn’t eaten meat in several years.  He whined and complained and finally wimped out, causing the team to go back to the Road Block.  Nick & Starr ate their feasts and were able to head straight to the Pit Stop.  Being the first team to get to Old Square, they each won a wave runner.

Back at the Road Block, Toni quickly found her egg, followed by Andrew and Tina.  Once teams found the egg, they were instructed to search the ground for a crane truck that would take them to Koktobe Arch, where they had to follow a path to Mongol warriors and wait for their next clue.  Once there, each team received their clue from a trained eagle who flew from a perch to the Mongol warrior’s arm with the clue rolled up in its talons.

The clue was for a Detour.   Teams could either Play Like Mad or Act Like Fools.  In Play Like Mad, teams had to go the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments and learn a traditional song, and then go to a park and play that song for tips.  In Act Like Fools, teams had to go to a children’s theater, dress as a cow, walk through the streets to find a marked milk stand, and drink a glass of milk.  Their next clue would then be revealed.

All teams chose Act Like Fools.  Having some trouble locating the milk stand, Tina & Ken  reached it first.  Tina drank the milk, and then they wandered off looking for the next clue.  Toni & Dallas then got to the stand, Dallas drank the milk and saw the clue in the bottom of the glass.  The clue sent them to a market, where they had to deliver themselves, still dressed as a cow, to a butcher to receive their next clue.

After rereading the previous clue, Tina realized her mistake and returned to the milk stand for her glass.  However, Ken & Tina didn’t reread the previous clue closely enough, because instead of heading for the butcher, they first headed back to the children’s theater to return their cow costume.

After Dallas & Toni got their clue from the butcher, they passed a costume-less Ken & Tina.  Asking them where their costume was, Ken said they’d taken it back.  Dallas told them they needed it, but, not believing him, Ken & Tina continued to the butcher.  There, the butcher would not give them their clue.  So, they went back for the costume.

When Andrew & Dan got their costume, they did not take their shoes with them; instead they left them at the children’s theater.

The clue from the butcher directed teams to the Pit Stop on foot, where they had to turn in their cow head.

Toni & Dallas arrived at the Pit Stop second, with Ken & Tina in third.

The boys, after getting their clue from the butcher, took a taxi to the Pit Stop.  Once they arrived, Phil told them that because they had not read their clue correctly, they had to return to the butcher and make their way back to the Pit Stop on foot.

Even after doing this, Andrew and Dan arrived in fourth.  Terence and Sarah had lost so much time trying for the Fast Forward that they fell into last place and never recovered.

This next leg will most likely be a non-elimination leg, which will save the frat boys.  I predict they will be last this time around, since they’ve been barely squeaking by as it is.

Teams, in order of arrival:

  1. Nick & Starr — FAST FORWARD
  2. Toni & Dallas
  3. Ken & Tina
  4. Andrew & Dan
  5. Terence & Sarah — ELIMINATED
